Why learn CPR?

Why learn CPR?

Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) is an important life skill that we believe everyone should know. There are many benefits of having this knowledge, not least that you could be needed to save a life in an emergency situation. Assist First Aid are here to make sure that you are correctly informed and prepared.

CPR is carried out when a casualty is not breathing normally and needs artificial breathing done for them. This can happen anywhere, in public, at work or even at home, so it makes sense to be prepared in case of emergency. With our training, you will be taught correct procedure to give you the best chance at resuscitating a casualty. We use adult, child and infant mannequins for practice, to ensure that you as a first aider are ready for any situation, and will not panic when called upon to provide CPR.

Our AED and CPR course will teach you how to use an Automated External Defibrillator, including those found in public places. Defibrillators work by re-establishing a heart’s regular rhythm, by administering an electric shock which can save a life. This can be the difference between life and death, as it avoids having to wait for an ambulance to turn up. It is easy to use an AED, as the automation will walk you through the process meaning you cannot shock the casualty if it is not needed. Nonetheless, it is beneficial to go through the course to familiarise yourself with the equipment.

Our other training courses include First Aid at Work and Paediatric First Aid. These courses will help to increase your knowledge of First Aid beyond simply the use of a defibrillator and CPR, and will give you the skills to help anyone suffering from and injury or illness that may not immediately lead to the casualty becoming unresponsive. We would suggest that everyone learn at least basic first aid techniques that can prevent the situation from getting any worse.
